Disengagement

Ana and her Israeli half-brother Uli reconnect during their father’s funeral in Avignon. She decides to go to Israel with him to find the daughter she abandoned 20 years earlier. Together they cross borders and find themselves in the midst of the Israeli disengagement from Gaza…
NOTE
At times reminiscent of Musil’s The Man Without Qualities, Amos Gitai composes a series of scenes in movements… The director reconnects with the poetic and aesthetic experimentation of his earliest fiction films such as Berlin Jerusalem and Golem, The Spirit of Exile. This approach allows him to link an acute and unique crisis (the eviction of the illegal settlers from Gaza) with a broad reflection about great contemporary tragedies, misery and oppression, forced migrations, the collapse of community identity, and the most intimate questioning of the sense of filiation and sharing.
